Softball Field at LCMS

Looking out toward second baseIn June 2007, one of our members was involved with the Girls Softball Association at Lake City Middle School and had recruited volunteers to help refurbish one of the fields. With the help from other Kiwanians and local Boy Scouts of America troops, the field was refurbished and was ready for use for the 2007-2008 school year.

There were many problems with the field. There were holes in the outfield that could cause injury if a player were to trip while running. Drainage was an issue and water would stand whenever it rained, and the field was getting overgrown with grasses where there should not have been any. Earlier work had been started on a batting cage that never completely materialized and had overgrown to a point it couldn't be used.

All of these things didn't dissuade the volunteers who made this project happen. Through the generosity of various local businesses and the hard work of the many volunteers, the field was refurbished over three or four weekends and was ready for use the next school year.

Projects like these are what makes Kiwanis a worthwhile program. Knowing that you will make a positive impact on the children of the community is the best feeling in the world. This is but one of many projects Kiwanians have undertaken in recent years.
